Hi,

If you follow each other, you can do 'd ', the username of the person you want to message, then your tweet. This is called a 'direct message'; only your intended recipient should see it.

Are you trying to use the Twitter website itself, or a third-party client? That, and it sounds like what you're wanting to send is what's called a, "Direct message," which is to someone privately, rather than a public tweet? Is this the case? Sorry for the lack of answers, but need a couple more details here to give any.

you can't do that unless your account is private.

If you want just one person to see the message in question, then the first few posters are correct. it's called a direct message. Most third party clients have a direct message tab, or option. If you're using the site, type "D username message", where "username" is the person's twitter handle, and "message" is, as the name suggests, the message you want to send. Nobody else will see it if you do it correctly.

If you're looking to have only followers see all of your tweets, then Chelsea is correct. You will need to protect your tweets, which you can do from settings on the website. As far as I know, this is the only way you can do it. and you will also have to approve every follow request you get from the site as well.

However, by the way you describe what you want to do, it seems as though the direct message feature is what you're looking for, in this case. Just so you know, the "D username message" command will work regardless of what you're using to send the message, as long as you're spelling their username correctly. Just keep in mind that you and the person you're trying to DM will need to be following each other for this to work.

Actually, you click on the person's name, it'll load their Twitter page, then you keep pressing "B" if you're using Jaws until the Direct Message button is shown. Click on it, and there you have it. I'm a mad Twitter user but hardly us a Direct Message.

No problem, Dan.

Alex, the way you describe will work if you're using the site, and if you don't want to write the person's username. However, if you don't mind spelling it out, the written way is quicker. I normally don't use it, just because I get peranoyed that I'm going to misspell their username. Lol. But then again, I rarely ever use the site.
